These past few months have been turbulent, uncertain and for sure challenging. Even though the coronavirus pandemic hasn’t found the way out in many countries, fashion, as any other industry, needs to recover, not only for its inspirational contribution, but also because there are many families and little businesses who count on it.
Since New York has announced, together with London, Milan and Paris, fashion weeks will return with a hybrid between physical and virtual shows, a silver lining was added in september’s mood. But this hope hasn’t been able to get rid of the questions that surround fashion shows, mainly about their purpose and what´s the real value of the old system. In this sense, designers such as Marc Jacobs, Ralph Lauren and Michael Kors decided to move away from the traditional calendar this year.
All in all, it’s come as no surprise that Jason Wu kicks off spring summer 2021 with an illuminating and vibrant collection. In this opportunity, Tulum and Mexico’s nature serves as a source of inspiration to create dresses with a powerful mix & match trend, balloon sleeves and loose cut. His latest designs are especially admired by wearable aesthetic, casual style and an optimistic range of colors, which honor the magnificent landscape of Tulum with different kinds of green, orange, yellow, shocking pink, blue and neon tones.
“I wanted to create a collection that reminds me of the bright, tropical hues that recall so many memories. The theme of the collection is about escapism because fashion should inspire and make us feel happy. It has been really fun exploring the more casual side of the Jason Wu woman, which is why I decided to show my more casual contemporary counterpart line for the first time on the runway”, the designer mentioned in a statement.
For spring summer 2021, Jason Wu proposes an undeniable comfort with his first ever presentation on the contemporary-priced line, relying on flat and flashy shoes more than anything, that go perfectly along with midi dresses, minimalist blazers, straight and wide leg pants. Jewelry, on the other hand, lifts every creation with asymmetrical earrings and colorful necklaces.
In addition to the show that took place at spring studios, Jason Wu has launched “Distance Yourself from Hate”, a campaign that focuses on spreading the word of love by offering mouth masks with this message in particular. Also, sales will allow the New York brand to provide food and protective masks to underprivileged communities.
